Class Policies

A. Make Up Policy

Homework and Test makeup policies are already established by UT, and will be followed.
Labs and Projects utilizing labs present particular problems.
--> If the lab does not utilize consumable materials (enzymes, DNA, etc) the student IS expected to make                it up on their own time.
--> If the lab does utilize consumable materials the student is NOT expected to make it up, but may be                required to complete an alternate assignment instead.

B. Use of Lab Data

Science is a process of discovery. Very few FACTS are known. Do not assume certain data, manipulate data to fit expectations, or "share" data with classmates. ALWAYS base your conclusions on the data you obtained during your lab work.

C. Group Work

Many of the labs and projects will require students to work in pairs or groups. Do your share of the work and pay attention while completing the work. Students with a poor work attutude may find it difficult to find other students willing to work with them.

D. Internet Use

Students will be required to utilize the Internet for Quizzes, practice Tests, project research, and to access lost assignments. Often the computer lab in the library and/or computers in the classroom will be used. ALL students at UTHS must have an "Authorization for Internet Access" form signed by the parents before beginning internet assignments. Blank forms are available at registration, or can be obtained from the library.
Additionally students in my classes will be required to complete a "Permission Slip" that allows their students grades to be available for their own personal viewing on the internet. This form requires the student (with input from their parents) to create an ID Number and a PIN Number, so that each student (and his/her parents) can view only their own grades. This system provides excellent security and privacy AS LONG AS students DO NOT share their numbers.

E. Class Rules

1. Treat others as you want to be treated.
2. Ask questions freely.
3. Use self discipline - in behavior & work habits.
4. Show self respect - with integrity & belief in yourself.
5. Don’t get discouraged. Learning is often hard and messy.
6. Science is a process of discovery. Very few FACTS are known. Don’t assume anything, but instead reach            your own conclusions.
7. Do your best, and be proud of it.
8. Feel free to talk, or ask for help, at anytime.
9. I strive to treat everyone equally, but I understand that special conditions may prevent this.
10. Enjoy the topic, each other, and life.
